Baker’s Treat in Flemington is a bakery unlike any other. It’s a training facility and job site for not the “disabled,” but rather, the “differently abled.” Karen Monroy formed the nonprofit Ability2work, after her son graduated from the Midland School in Branchburg, a specialized facility for children with developmental disabilities. Life beyond 21 years old for a differently abled person is challenging. Monroy, along with other parents, formed the group to create a business that benefits the community and these special young people who are often left with few real employment options as adults.
